About CVRHS

Formed in 1996, the Chemung Valley Railway Historical Society (CVRHS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of railroading in the Chemung Valley region of New York State. The Society, based in the Elmira, NY area, strongly believes that the vast and impressive history this area once had as a rail transportation hub should be remembered through the preservation of photographs, memorabilia, artifacts and rolling stock.

PROJECTS

CVRHS owns three railroad cars, and has assisted in the preservation of nearly a dozen pieces of historic railroad equipment that would have met an unfortunate fate wilth a scrapper. The society's three cars were all built for the Erie Railroad, one of the four major railroads to own trackage through Elmira, and will be the centerpiece in a railroad exhibit that has been in development for several years.

MEMBERSHIP

CVRHS holds membership meetings several times a year which feature a guest speaker and/or slide/video program.

Membership in CVRHS is $10.00 (individual) $15.00 (family) and $8.00 (student) for one year and includes a subscription to the society's publication, The Chemung Valley Flyer, which keeps members up to date on society news and functions as well as rail news and events.
